LSO has invited young people to join a 'true musical republic' with its Fushion Orchestra
Everyone is encouraged to bring their own ideas. It has been described as a true musical republic whose members have a free reign to develop transferable skills and raise their aspirations
Young people aged 10-18 from Hackney, Islington and the City of London are being taught to play a range of musical instruments in styles ranging from jazz to rock to classical by London Symphony Orchestra players and local artists.
So far, more than 100 youngsters have been involved in the project creating music from a blank canvas with improvisation, rather than printed music. No prior musical experience is required and players of all abilities are welcome.
The project gives youngsters the experience of team working, listening to and respecting the ideas of others, developing their ability to think on their feet, and broadening their horizons through exposure to the music of different periods and cultures.
