About the East Midlands

The East Midlands is home to 4.3 million people (8.5 per cent of the England population) and covers six counties:

The East Midlands regional team is based in Nottingham. The regional team is:

  • Head of Region: Mick McGrath
  • Policy & Partnerships Managers: Kelly Hart & Sean Tizzard
  • Policy & Partnerships Officer: Louise Ashby & Matt Rowe
  • Regional Communications Manager: Andrew Regan
  • Regional Communications Officer: Sue Barsby
  • Regional Administrator: Shylet Mudzamiri

The team works with relevant stakeholders, funding advice workers and potential applicants for programmes and offers advice and support. This is done through a variety of ways:

  • The team regularly attends funding fairs and delivers presentations and advice about applying to our programmes.
  • We have developed our own workshop exercises, delivered to funding advice workers throughout the region so that they have in-depth knowledge of our funding programmes and requirements.
  • The East Midlands team sends out a monthly e-bulletin to over 1,600 subscribers. This contains up-to-date information relevant to stakeholders in the region and links to the regional web page on the BIG website. Regular news items include information about the latest awarded grants, programme updates, upcoming regional events and news.
  • We contact all newly funded groups in the East Midlands and offer them merchandise and advice on how to publicise the success of their grant.
  • We monitor where grants are awarded in the East Midlands, and work to increase the number of grant applications where necessary. This may be done in a number of ways such as targeting communications campaigns or working with local stakeholders.
