Pension scheme
You will be able to join a generous pension scheme. If you would prefer to join a stakeholder pension, we will make a contribution of up to 12.5 per cent of salary, depending on your age, as well as an additional matching contribution of up to another 3 per cent.
Flexible working
We have a wide range of formal and informal flexible working options to enable teams and individuals to manage work-life balance while ensuring the organisation is able to work effectively. These include part-time hours, compacted hours, non-standard working hours, ad hoc working from home, job sharing, and flexible working hours.
Generous annual leave
Annual leave is 25 days per year on joining Big Lottery Fund, rising by one day every year of employment up to a total of 30 days. An additional three days of leave will be given every year – normally at Christmas. We also give eight days public holidays to staff working in our England offices.
Paid maternity/adoption leave
Staff who are eligible for statutory maternity pay will receive full pay for the first 22 weeks of their maternity leave.
Paid paternity leave
Staff who are eligible for statutory paternity pay will receive 10 days on full pay.
Paid parental leave
Staff who have worked with us for one year are entitled to one week’s parental leave on full pay per year if they have one or more child under the age of eight. This is in addition to their annual leave entitlement.
Childcare vouchers
We offer a salary sacrifice scheme for childcare vouchers to enable staff to benefit from the generous tax advantages of covering the cost of childcare in this way.
Season ticket and bicycle purchase loans
Staff who have worked with us for one month are eligible for an interest free season ticket or bicycle purchase loan.
Unpaid career break
Staff who have worked with the Big Lottery Fund for two years can request an unpaid career break of up to 50 weeks every five years.
Paid public duty leave
Staff may take up to 18 days paid leave per year to undertake public duties.
Working hours
The standard working week for full time staff is 37 hours, with a minimum 30 minute unpaid lunch break in addition.
Retirement age
The normal retirement age in BIG is 65. At the request of the individual, and at management discretion, staff may continue to work on an annual contract up to the age of 70. Staff who are members of the final salary pension scheme may choose to retire at any age from 60 onwards.
Pay progression
As well as an annual pay award, all staff receive an annual progression increase up to a maximum target point of 80 per cent of the total pay range for their grade. The progression rate depends on where the staff member’s salary is in the pay range, relative to the two milestones for each range – 25 and 50 per cent.
Probation
All staff joining BIG are on six month’s probation. Staff on probation will receive the basic award and progression payment; both pro-rated on their time in the organisation at 1 April. These will be paid once they have successfully completed their probation period.
Corporate sponsorship scheme
The BIG corporate sponsorship scheme supports staff who have worked with us for one year to undertake qualifications appropriate to their job and their professional development. The support offered includes full or part payment of course fees and up to 12 days paid study leave. Eligible qualifications include GCSE & A/S Levels, Higher National Diplomas and Certificates, First Degrees, Post Graduate Certificates, Diplomas and Degrees, and National Vocational Qualifications. New staff joining BIG who are already undertaking qualifications which meet our corporate objectives may apply for funding.
Health care plan
All staff will be opted in to Medicash on commencement of employment with BIG. Medicash is an inexpensive healthcare plan that provides a range of positive healthcare benefits.
