BIG funds a wide range of programmes and projects that are open to all. But we have noted that many of these attract fewer men than women, despite the fact that some of these projects address issues that tend to affect men more acutely.
We are committed to promoting equality and so are keen to find out more about why this is the case and how we can help to address men’s needs more effectively.
We have commissioned the Young Foundation to investigate this, in particular to identify patterns and reasons for variations in male involvement, and to suggest ways that projects can attract and retain men.
The researchers will review literature and speak to projects and male beneficiaries across the UK. They have also set up a blog about the study – why not add your thoughts?
We will publish the report and case studies from the study here in spring 2012.
