Changing Spaces

Four of the Changing Spaces award partners are now open for business and we expect the final award partner, Mind, to launch towards the summer. This means there is now a considerable amount of money available for environmental projects in England. For more information on the award partner programmes visit Changing Spaces

Young People's Fund 2

Young People’s Fund 2 Local Grants launched on 19 May 2008. Young people will be involved all the way through the programme and will sit on the panel that decides which projects will get the money. The programme has 2 aims:

1. To ensure that all organisations that provide services to young people involve them in developing, running and reviewing policies and services.

2. To help achieve at least two of the five Every Child Matters outcomes.

These outcomes are:-

  • Being healthy: enjoying good physical and mental health; living a healthy lifestyle
  • Staying safe: being protected from harm and neglect, growing up able to look after yourself
  • Enjoying and achieving: getting the most out of life; developing skills for adulthood
  • Making a positive contribution: giving back to the local community and society; not offending or behaving anti-socially
  • Economic well-being: overcoming socio-economic disadvantages to achieve full potential in life.

Young People’s Fund 2 Local Grants will fund a small number of high quality exemplar projects. This programme will only consider projects that are youth-led. The programme is open to voluntary and community sector organisations, although partnership applications are also encouraged. Grants are available between £10,000 and £500,000. For information on the programme go to Young People's Fund 2 Local Grants

BASIS Round Two

BASIS Round Two launched on 7 May 2008. Round One awarded £101 million to 206 voluntary and community sector infrastructure organisations across England. Round Two is more focused than round one and consequently the criteria for applying are significantly different. Since we launched BASIS in 2006 advances in national and regional infrastructure planning mean we have a much clearer picture of infrastructure support services in each of the England regions and across England as a whole

We have also examined the grants we made in round one and taken into account funding for infrastructure development from other sources. We used this knowledge to propose regional and England wide priorities for round two. We consulted about these during 2007. From this came priorities that we want to support in round two.

The 17 priorities for the North West region are on the Big Lottery Fund website. The closing date for applications is 2pm on the 27 August 2008. You should read the guidance in detail before deciding to make an application. For more information go to BASIS

Do one thing

The BBC is offering local Big Lottery Funded groups a whole range of promotional items, including free kits for the “Do one thing” promotion. These contain everything you need to stage an awareness raising event - you could even get other groups to come along too and make a community day out.  Please contact darren.taylor@bbc.co.uk  at the BBC for further information.

Recent awards in the North West region

Liverpool Greenbank Wheelchair Basketball Club was established in 1999 with the aim of helping disabled people of all ages to enjoy basketball.  In August 2007 the club was delighted to be awarded almost £10,000 from Awards for All to purchase sports wheelchairs and equipment.
