Infrastructure services do vital work to help voluntary and community groups achieve their aims, through services such as training, providing information, representing community groups' interests, supporting networks and sharing good practice.
The BASIS programme aims to ensure that voluntary and community organisations throughout England have access to high quality support that will help them be more effective.
Background
In round one we awarded £101 million to 206 voluntary and community sector infrastructure organisations across England. We expect to award up to £50 million in round two.
Round two was more focused than round one. Since we launched BASIS in 2006 advances in national and regional infrastructure planning mean we have a much clearer picture of infrastructure support services in each of the England regions and across England as a whole.
We have also examined the grants we made in round one and taken into account funding for infrastructure development from other sources. We used this knowledge to propose regional and England wide priorities for round two. We consulted about these during 2007. From this came priorities that we want to support in round two.
We know that there is a high demand for funding from this programme. By clearly describing the services we want to support we will maximise impact and save organisation's from developing applications that would not be funded.
Our response to the consultation and the round two priorities can be found in the more information box on the right.
