Big Local Trust

Helping people make their communities better places to live in, now and in the future

Summary of the programme

The Big Lottery Fund in England is investing up to £200 million in 100 – 150 urban and rural neighbourhoods that have been overlooked for funding.

The funding is being invested as a charitable endowment with at least £1m allocated to each community to be spent over 10 years. An independent organisation called Local Trust has been set up to help local areas decide how to spend their allocations.

News (29/02/12): A further 50 communities are being allocated the £1m funding today, bringing the number of communities who are so far benefiting from the scheme to 100.

Local Trust will organise for a Big Local rep to help local people in each area pull together ideas for a plan to will enable people to make their communities better places to live in, now and in the future. Local people will be helped to develop the skills and confidence they need to identify priorities that matter to them and to take action to change things for the better.
