Summary

Village SOS is an exciting initiative from the Big Lottery Fund to help kick start a rural revival using the power of sustainable community enterprise. We want to support inspiring business ideas that will bring communities together and support activities or enterprises that tackle the challenges they face. To find out more about community enterprises, see our question and answers

We have already funded a range of community enterprises. Go to www.villagesos.org.uk to see what other villages have done.

Through Village SOS Active we can:

  • make grants of between £10,000 and £50,000 (including VAT)
  • pay for some or all your costs for the first year of your enterprise but we cannot contribute funding towards projects that will cost more than £100,000 (including VAT)
  • fund projects based in communities with a population of 3,000 people or less
  • fund organisations that are voluntary and community groups or parish, town or community councils
  • fund building work but, before submitting your application, you must own the freehold (heritable ownership in Scotland) or have a lease that cannot be end for at least five years.

Your application must reach us by 2pm on Wednesday 12 September 2012. You can send us your application at any time so that we can promptly assess your idea and, if you’re successful, pay you your grant. If you are unsuccessful then you can re-apply providing you do so before the deadline.
