The Scotland Funders’ Forum is a group of public and independent funders who are working together to try to make funding better in Scotland.

The Forum The funding landscape in Scotland is complex and interlinked. Funders are diverse, ranging from government departments to charitable trusts, but often have common aims. 46KB is a chief executive level group which has frank discussions and makes real changes. It brings together the widest ever grouping of private and public funding agencies in the country to share information, learning and best practice. The Big Lottery Fund chairs the Forum and supports its development.

Since the funders started meeting together, they have worked on streamlining monitoring and evaluation systems, funding outcomes rather than activities, and building better links with the private sector.

There have been concrete gains. The funders launched an evaluation declaration in 2006 This declaration is about the relationship between funders and the organisations they fund. It is about how and why we evaluate our work together.1,042KB, saying clearly what they thought evaluation should be about and how it should be supported. They are committed to doing more work to make the principles in that declaration a reality.

Each year the Forum sets out a workplan In 2006, the Scotland Funders’ Forum followed a workplan based around four workstreams: outcome funding and the investor model; making concrete gains; risk and reputatio...

. In 2006 it worked on: outcome funding and the investor model, risk and reputation, recognising success and sustaining it, and making concrete gains. After a year, the Forum held a conference to share its work and ask the audience how the forum should develop. It also published a year one report The funding landscape in Scotland is complex and interlinked. Funders are diverse - ranging from government departments to charitable trusts - but often have common aims. 2,926KB to tell people about the work so far.

In 2007 the Forum will work on:

  • engaging the private sector
  • long-term funding and making transitions
  • better practice on proofing and checking organisation’s financial and legal status
  • monitoring and evaluating.

The Forum has also set up a ‘Funders' Forum Frontline’, an officer level group which works on practical ways that funders can improve. The Frontline promotes closer working between people in a wide range of funders. Its workplan Workstream - Improving our skills and knowledge.40KB for 2007 involves improving funders skills and knowledge, making things easier for applicants, and working better together.
