The Big Lottery Fund makes a difference to us all by investing in people and places across the United Kingdom. Here in the South West, over £1.5 billion of lottery funding has been invested in projects across the region.
Geographically the largest region in England, the South West is predominantly rural and includes over 60% of England’s heritage coast, two National Parks and has a third of its land designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Although there is relative prosperity, there is significant variation across the region with pockets of deprivation both in rural and urban areas, with poor access to services being a major factor.
We are committed to developing national programmes that work with partners in the voluntary, public and private sectors and where appropriate, complement government priorities and programmes. It is important that all the work we do has a strategic focus. Working in partnership and joining up with existing strategies was a key message that emerged through our public consultation.
But this value has as much impact on individual projects as it does on national funding programmes. Therefore we want to fund projects that work in partnership and link up with local strategies and key stakeholders. This in turn means thinking about local communities, and how projects can work with others locally and make the link with stakeholders.
Regionally based staff focus on policy development, outreach, partnerships and external relations. Our regional staff regularly attend project launches and other events around the region – keep an eye on our events pages for more information.
