The Big Lottery Fund has today announced that two new members have joined its England Committee. The move (effective from 1st February) sees Kevin Bone and John Mothersole joining five existing committee members in approving decisions on how National Lottery funding is used to support people and their communities in England.

John Mothersole has been the CEO of Sheffield City Council since 2008, the third largest district authority in England. He has extensive experience of building strong partnerships, encouraging and inspiring ambition, and empowering stakeholders.

Kevin Bone is Partner and UK Head at Impact Ventures UK. He is a qualified accountant and experienced investment professional. He has a wealth of private sector experience and expertise in investing in social impact and governance in the social sector.

The Big Lottery Fund, the UK’s largest funder of community activity in the UK, has also confirmed that Dr Charlie Howard has been re-appointed for her second term after first joining the Committee in 2014.

During her four years as a member, Dr Charlie Howard has made a significant contribution to the Big Lottery Fund’s work. She has been a panel member on the Building Better Opportunities programme and led the development of HeadStart, a five-year National Lottery funded programme aimed at improving young people’s mental health.

Nat Sloane CBE, England Chair at the Big Lottery Fund, said: “With John’s understanding of local Government and Kevin’s expertise in social impact investing, we are delighted to have them both on board. Their experience will be invaluable as we distribute National Lottery money to fund bright ideas across England and support people wanting to make a difference in their communities.”

The Big Lottery Fund’s England Committee is responsible for strategy, policy, planning and management of funding programmes in England. Last year the Big Lottery Fund awarded almost £713 million and supported almost 14,000 projects for health, education, environment and charitable purposes.
