Small grants make big difference to Scottish groups

A new men’s shed in North Lanarkshire, an improved skate park in Fife and popular community arts festival in Renfrewshire are amongst a wide range of projects today (THURS 14 JUNE) sharing in National Lottery grants worth £384,459.

The funding, which is being shared by 51 voluntary and community groups comes from National Lottery Awards for All Scotland which makes grants from £300 to £10,000. See a list of projects receiving funding in your area

Picking up an award of £10,000 is Getting Better Together which will set up a new men’s shed in the Springhill area of Shotts. Aimed at tackling isolation and loneliness, the project will bring together men from all walks of life to chat, share skills and get involved in workshop projects.

In Fife, a £10,000 award to Oakley Sk8park Group will put the wheels in motion for a new and improved skate park. Young people in Oakley have been involved in the design of the project, which has brought the whole community together to fundraise for the new facility.

A popular community arts festival in the village of Lochwinnoch in Renfrewshire has received a £9,000 National Lottery boost. The money will go towards the 18th Lochwinnoch Arts Festival which will bring together community groups, local musicians and guest artists to showcase and enjoy a wide range of musical and artistic activities over 13 days.

A National Lottery Awards for All spokesperson said: “No matter how big or small the award, there is something for everyone in this latest round of National Lottery grants. Each group will use its funding to bring people together to share new skills, make friends and to become more connected to services and activities in their local area. We look forward to seeing the impact of this funding over the coming months.”
