What are we looking for?

We are looking for projects that will conserve, create or improve outdoor spaces within a specific community. We will ask you what your project will do and how you will work with your community to develop it.

We will only make grants to formally constituted third sector bodies working in partnership with their communities and local organisations. We will accept applications from organisations based anywhere in Wales but the project must benefit communities in the following, existing local authority areas:

  • Caerphilly
  • Conwy
  • Flintshire
  • Isle of Anglesey
  • Monmouthshire
  • Newport
  • Rhondda Cynon Taff
  • Vale of Glamorgan
  • Wrexham

Please speak to us before making an application. Phone 0300 123 0735 or email enquiries.wales@biglotteryfund.org.uk to discuss your project with us.

You can apply for funding for up to seven years. We can fund up to 100 per cent of the costs of your project including staff, training, volunteer expenses, equipment, premises costs, evaluation and overheads.

Application process

  • Tell us about your project and we’ll discuss whether it is something that we might fund. If so, we’ll send you a short application form.
  • Email us your completed application form along with an organisation details form and we’ll let you know we’ve received them
  • We’ll contact you to discuss your project. We may ask you for some extra information to help us make a decision
  • We’ll provide feedback on your application and let you know if you have been invited to submit a stage two application.

Decision process

After the stage one closing date, applications will be taken to a decision-making committee made up of members of the programme team. Successful applications will be awarded development funding and invited to submit a stage two application.

Following the stage two closing date, applications will be taken to a decision-making committee made up of members of the programme team and external programme partners. Successful applicants will be awarded full funding to develop their projects.
