Community Spaces Scotland supports communities to become more involved in and to take responsibility for communal spaces and places.
This will bring communities together while making them healthier and happier. We will fund communities to improve the appearance, accessibility and sustainability of local spaces, places and buildings.
Projects must achieve all three of the following outcomes:
- Communities come together to make better use of local spaces and places
- Communities come together to improve their environment
- Communities come together to get healthier and be more active.
A wide range of organisations are eligible to apply. Eligible organisations include:
- Voluntary and community organisations
- Community councils
- Social enterprises
- Private companies (provided our grants do not contribute to the profits they distribute).
However, the project must be delivered in an area that has been verified as eligible using our eligibility checker.
We want this programme to focus on areas of greatest need in Scotland. To help us achieve this we have added eligibility criteria, based on the area where the project will be delivered. You can easily find out if your project is eligible by typing the postcode where your project will be based into our eligibility checker on the right of this page.
If the postcode of your project is ineligible but most of your beneficiaries live in eligible areas you may still be able to apply. If this is the case you need to provide us with further information and you can contact us at email@example.com
To find out more about our approach to eligibility for this programme read our Community Spaces Scotland guidance notes
While we encourage the involvement and support of statutory bodies in your application, local authorities are unable to apply. We cannot fund individuals or sole traders.
We expect to fund a wide range of activities involving meeting spaces, recreation, and community green spaces. Examples include providing facilities for community activity through developing and improving:
- local parks
- community paths and gardens
- play parks
- community centres and village halls.
