Bogus Lottery emails
What to do if you receive a hoax Lottery email
Unfortunately a number of emails are circulated using the Big Lottery Fund name to tell people that they have won a large sum of money in a national or online lottery. These emails are generated by fraudsters misusing the name of the Fund. There is no prize money, these emails are hoaxes. Never respond to these types of email, the best thing you can do is delete them and tell your friends and colleagues to do the same.
The Big Lottery Fund does not give away prize money: we hand out the money raised by the UK National Lottery to good causes in the UK and abroad. We only give grants to people and organisations who have applied to us.
Camelot deals with sales of Lottery tickets and winning tickets. You can contact Camelot on 0845 910 0000.
If you have responded to the email you should break off all contact with the fraudster at once. If you have given the fraudster your bank account details, you should alert your bank immediately.
If fraud has been committed you should report it to Action Fraud www.actionfraud.police.uk
