The Coastal Communities Fund (CCF) encourages the economic development of UK coastal communities by giving funding to create sustainable economic growth and jobs. Since the start of the CCF in 2012 we have awarded grants to 218 organisations across the UK to the value of £125 million. This funding is forecast to deliver over 12,000 jobs and help attract over £240 million of additional funds to coastal areas. The Big Lottery Fund is delivering the CCF on behalf of UK Government and the Devolved Administrations in Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. The UK Government announced in 2015 that the CCF will be extended to 2021 with at least £90m of new funding available for the period 2017/18 to 2020/21.

Round 4 of the CCF opened to applications in England on 22 May 2016 and in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland on 4 July 2016. The application deadline has now passed for all countries.

One further funding round in England, Wales and Northern Ireland is expected to open in 2017. Details regarding future funding in Scotland are still to be advised.

CCF Round 4 is now closed to applications. The closing date for stage one applications in England was 30 June 2016, in Scotland and Northern Ireland it was 17 August 2016 and for Wales it was 29 September 2016. Decisions on which applications were invited to submit a full stage two application were made in September and October 2016 and all applicants have now been notified. For applicants now working on Stage two applications, you will have been advised of your application submission deadline in your letter inviting you to continue. Funding decisions are expected to be made in Spring 2017 in England, Scotland and Northern Ireland, and Summer 2017 for projects in Wales.

Funded projects

We received a lot of applications for the first three rounds of CCF, but projects which were successful demonstrated the following:

  • Clear project outputs which could be evidenced, in particular job creation
  • Ability to deliver within agreed timescales
  • Sustainability of activity and longer term impact.
