East Africa Disability Fund

International funding

What's it all about?

Our new international funding will focus on enabling disabled people to improve their livelihoods, for projects based in Tanzania and Uganda. This new approach follows a detailed strategy review and is based on extensive evaluation and feedback on our previous programme.

According to the United Nations disability report, globally it is estimated that 1 in 7 of the world's population is disabled, 80 per cent of whom live in developing countries. We believe that access to livelihood opportunities will reduce the level of poverty faced by disabled people and will increase their active contribution within their communities, challenging stigma.

What are we looking for?

There are two strands of funding available:

  • Funding for disability specialist organisations. This is for organisations who support disabled people as the main focus of their work, and are looking to build on this experience to expand or test out different livelihoods approaches.
  • Funding for mainstream organisations. This is for organisations who have a strong track record in delivering livelihoods work in Tanzania and/or Uganda, and would like additional support to review and improve their approach to disability inclusive development.

If you would like to discuss this further, then please email international@biglotteryfund.org.uk or give us a call on 0345 4 10 20 30.

Who can apply?

We will fund voluntary or community sector organisations (a registered charity, incorporated voluntary organisation or social enterprise) with a UK registered office and registered at the Charity Commission, the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator or the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland.

We expect organisations to be working in partnership with a local organisation based in either Tanzania or Uganda.

How do you apply?

We expect our funding to focus primarily on revenue costs in this programme, however we are not looking for a detailed budget at this stage. Applicants are invited to review the information below and submit an expression of interest of no more than three sides of A4 (up to five sides if applying for more than one country).
